What kind of training injuries have you gotten from MMA?
How'd you get it. What works for taking care of it. How long did it take to heal.

PostSubject: Cauliflower ear   Fri Nov 27, 2009 5:42 am

The main reason for the post was my discovery last night of fluid build-up in my ear.
Although I love grappling I'm not at all thrilled about getting cauliflower ear or gyoza mimi as it's called here.

Planning on going to an ear nose and throat doctor to get it drained and taped up or something before it gets permanent.
I'm thinking it's probably from a mean right hook I took last week since my ears don't take so much punishment in grappling class.

You can drain the fluid, if you do nothing you wont get rid of it.

Went to the doc and he pulled about 50cc of fluid out. Not much mind you, but I don't wanna have ears that look stronger than me.

Doc also said if you don't keep pressure on until the skin reattaches to the cartilige it will just refill with fluid.....so here I sit with a clothespin on my gauzed up ear.

The only injury i've had happen was when I tore some rib cartilage last year. It pretty much heals on it's own, the doctor gave me anti-inflammatory drugs for the pain. I was happy it was just the cartilage and not a broken rib, but it still hurt like a bitch for awhile.

sprained thumb is the worst i've gotten. Im 170 lbs at most and was rolling with a 200+. he was trying to pass my guard and i was trying to prevent it with my hand. when he passed it, my thumb got stuck in his ass (not literally >.>) and he sat on it.

The kid just cranked the submission before I had time to tap. You know, one of those people who just go 100% all of the time even though you are just training. He was mad that he had never beat me before so he decided to really crank the leg so he knew I would tap... I never tapped, but you could hear the crack of my knee. It didn't really hurt at first and I thought I just got away with some torn meniscus, but it ended up being more serious than I thought. I spent $1000 dollars on co-pays for medical bills, as you could imagine, I was pissed. Laughing

I did get the kid back about 6 months later by tapping him with a flying armbar. That made it all okay for me. Cool

I've had a rib injury before, it's not fun trying to sleep on that. Laughing

Hate those kind of guys that just have no control... I go really slow and get tapped all the time, but its all just fun for me.

Not easy to sleep with rib injuries for sure! Took me a month before I was 100%, it was all an accident though I never had any bad feelings towards him Rolling Eyes

Laughing
